So it’s been a while. And apparently you’ve missed us. Or at least some of you have. Some of the time. But enough people have finally asked “When is Off-Tryon coming back?” that I’ve decided to answer the question.
September 27th, 2012.
That’s not nearly far enough away for comfort, but the legacy of OTTC was never one of comfort, now was it?
So we’re coming back. But there are some changes. First off, we don’t have a building. This season we’re producing two shows in the Duke Energy Theatre at Spirit Square. A homecoming of sorts for me, since Spirit Square is where I did my very first show in Charlotte – Keely & Du for Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte in February of 1994.
Yeah, I’m old. Piss off.
Another change is the personnel. For right now, I’m it. Glenn is off running the very successful Queen City Theatre Company, and doing awesome work over there. We’ll hang out, we’ll probably work together on some stuff. We are friends, after all, and it’s a very small town. And I’m sure I’ll call him up in the middle of the night asking “what the hell was I thinking?” But I’m currently going to be filling the roles of Managing and Artistic Director, under the guise of Producing Artistic Director.
That’s the awesome thing about Arts Management – you can make up any shit you want to call yourself, as long as the bills get paid.
But I’m putting together my team. And just like the Avengers, we’ll bring together performers, designers and technicians of all experience levels and ability levels and we’ll meld that into a team of people who can and will take on the world. And like the Avengers, we will kick much ass and make many snarky one-liners along the way. And when it’s all said and done, we’ll figure out what shawarma is all about.
Watch this space. I dare you.
Email me if you wanna team up. John AT offtryon.com.
Prepare to have your world changed.
Again.
